7 myths about veneers and their exposure

Veneers –

The technology is relatively new, until recently – few people are available (but we at the clinic fixed this with the help of an installment plan without overpayment ). Therefore, they are surrounded by many myths: tooth decay, an unnatural appearance, constant medical appointments for observation … We tell how everything really is.

Myth number 1. Veneers look unnatural.

Veneers look like they are modeled by a doctor taking into account the wishes of the patient. Indeed, you can find examples where veneers in famous people look excessively white, bright and large. But in aesthetic surgery or cosmetology, any work may look unnatural: for example, rhinoplasty, lip augmentation, eyebrow tattooing. This is not the fault of technology, but of how it was applied.

Veneers: how they look

Smiles of modern princesses: if this is a doctor’s work, then it’s very delicate

Fashion affects all aesthetic procedures: 20 years ago (veneers last a very long time), teeth like those that do not exist in nature seemed quite appropriate. Now the trend for natural beauty.

The doctor’s task is to choose veneers (shape, size, shade) so that it looks both beautiful and natural. In each case, the acceptable whiteness of the teeth will be different – it depends on the appearance, age of the patient.

Properly selected veneers make a person younger and more attractive, and too white can, on the contrary, emphasize age or some kind of flaws.

What options can be seen on the example of famous people?

Jim Carrey’s veneers look discreet (in the early photos you can see that the teeth looked different – there was definitely an aesthetic intervention).

Megan Fox veneers are snow-white, but of a natural form and in general also look natural. They are not too large, but in comparison with the old photos of the actress, it can be seen that the veneers slightly lifted the gum line and made the smile wider.

At the TV presenter Anastasia Ivleeva, the veneers are very catchy, white and large – the fact of the intervention of the dentist is striking. But they are in harmony with her appearance and, taking into account her young age, look great.

For singer Masha Rasputina, the veneers are too white and convex, and most importantly they have an unnatural structure (the surface is homogeneous, does not imitate enamel, it looks like artificial material).

Selection of veneers is the most important stage of the procedure, because the main purpose of the installation is aesthetics, pleasure from the appearance of a smile.

Myth number 2. The teeth are sharpened before installation.

No, teeth are sharpened by less than 1 mm. Veneers are an aesthetic technology that has nothing to do with prosthetics. Therefore, all functions continue to be performed by natural teeth (and they must be completely healthy before installation), and veneers only create an external effect.

If in the smile zone some teeth are slightly pushed back relative to others, this can be corrected with veneers. But again, not by grinding those that are more advanced, but by selecting the thickness of the plates to be installed.

Grinding teeth for veneers

The veneers are very thin, the turning of the teeth is less than 1 mm on the front surface.

Myth number 3. Over time, veneers darken and lose their aesthetic appearance.

In fact, in most cases, veneers last as long as implant crowns and do not change their appearance. There are no significant restrictions when wearing veneers. Of course, after installation, you do not need to forego tea or coffee forever. But in order to maintain an attractive appearance, you need to regularly undergo preventive cleanings at the dentist (this recommendation applies to those who have neither veneers nor implants).

Veneers do not change their color

Myth number 4. Veneers need to be changed often.

Veneers serve for decades – otherwise it would be disadvantageous to apply such technology. In rare cases (after an injury, for example), it may be necessary to replace a separate veneer, but this is an exception.

Myth number 5. Under the veneers, caries can begin.

Caries begins when the enamel is exposed to acids for a long time (formed from plaque after eating). Under the veneers, nothing affects the enamel, since the junction is tight, food and drinks cannot get there. In this case, you need to brush your teeth just as always, paying attention to cleaning all surfaces, because veneers are installed only on the external, visible side of the teeth.

The most common place of caries formation is chewing tubercles and the space between them, the posterior surface of the teeth, and interdental gaps. That is, those places that are more difficult to clean. Veneers are installed on the area of teeth, which is rarely affected by caries.

Myth number 6. Veneers need special care.

Daily care and preventive examinations once a year are needed, special care and restrictions are not. The usual recommendations are applicable, as for those who do not have any structures at all (crowns, bridges). For example, for owners of completely healthy natural teeth, doctors will not recommend cracking nutshells. Veneers – the construction is no less durable than natural teeth.

Veneer Care

Veneers are as strong as natural teeth.

Myth number 7. After installing the veneers, you need to change the diet (exclude solid or coloring food).

In the first days after installation, it may be uncomfortable to chew solid foods (such as hard meat). But after a short period of addiction, you can eat, as usual. As for coloring food, the material of the veneers does not absorb and does not accumulate dark pigments (unlike enamel). Dark plaque may remain on the surface, but is removed when cleaning.

In general, we can say that veneers are a construction that does not interfere at all in ordinary life, they are simply imperceptible. Therefore, no special care or any precautions are needed: care for them is the same as for natural teeth (including visiting a doctor for a scheduled examination).
